The USANA Difference with Other Whitening Toothpaste
There are countless brands of toothpaste chock-full of ingredients you’ve never heard of. But as a health-conscious individual, you deserve a toothpaste choice made with safe ingredients that gives you a beautiful smile without compromise.

That’s why you need USANA® Whitening Toothpaste—a product unique because of what is not on the label.

USANA Toothpaste Ingredients: Purified Water, Hydrated Silica, Glycerin, Xylitol, Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Titanium Dioxide, Natural Flavor, Vitamin C (as Poly C™: Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Zinc Ascorbates), Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Stevia Rebaudiana, Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate, Vitamin E Acetate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Chloride, Camellia Sinensis Extract.

You can find the huge difference of USANA toothpaste from other toothpaste.

Over 95% of the toothpaste sold in the U.S. now contains fluoride, with many grocery stores carrying few if any non-fluoridated brands. The use of fluoride toothpaste, particularly during early childhood, presents health risks. This is why the FDA requires a poison warning on every tube of fluoride toothpaste now sold in the US.

Risks from ingesting fluoride toothpaste include permanent tooth discoloration (dental fluorosis), stomach ailments, acute toxicity, skin rashes (perioral dermatitis), and impairment in glucose metabolism. All of these risks have been unnecessarily increased by the marketing practices of toothpaste manufacturers. The dental community’s failure to educate the public about the dangers of swallowing too much fluoride toothpaste has further exacerbated the problem. Following picture is about the Reports to Poison Control Centers in U.S.
Due to Excessive Ingestion of Fluoride Toothpastes

That is why we do not recommend our customers to use Fluoride Whitening Toothpaste. USANA Whitening toothpaste does not contain fluoride. Besides, it has a lot of nutrition:

What is the RDA of AP-24® Whitening FluorideToothpaste?

RDA (Relative Dentin Abrasivity) is the scale used to measure relative abrasivity of toothpastes. This scale starts at 0 and is open-ended. According to the American Dental Association, any product that falls below 250 is considered safe and effective for everyday use.

† The RDA value of AP-24® Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste is 103, which falls far below the 250 limit for daily use.

4. Hunter ML, Addy M, Pickles MJ, Joiner A. The role of tooth-pastes and toothbrushes in the aetiology of tooth wear. Int DentJ 2002;52:399-405.

Relative dentin abrasivity (RDA) is a method of measuring of the erosive effect of abrasives in toothpaste on tooth  dentin.  It involves using standardized abrasives compared against the test sample. The determination of this value is done by determining the activity while cleaning worn dentin which is radioactively marked by mild neutron irradiation. The values obtained depend on the size, quantity and surface structure of abrasive used in toothpastes.

Abrasivity measurements are given by what’s known as an RDA value which stands for radioactive dentin abrasion or relative dentin abrasivity. The maximum value for FDA approval is 200. Toothpastes that claim whitening properties apear to have a higher abrasiveness index. Here is how to interpret the RDA values:

  • From 0 to 80 = low abrasion
  • 70 to 100 = midrange abrasion
  • 100 to 150 = highly abrasive
  • 150 to 250 = considered harmful to teeth

Are AP-24® products ADA approved?

AP-24® products are not ADA (American Dental Association) approved. There are no requirements for dentists to use ADA products, nor is ADA approval required to indicate a quality product.

What makes Nu Skin’s whitening technology different?
• No peroxides—they have the potential to cause tooth and  gum sensitivity.
• No harsh abrasives—they remove stains, but erode and scratch teeth.

Will AP-24® Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste make my teeth whiter than they are naturally?
No. AP-24® Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste is not an oxidiz-ing, bleaching agent (see above question). However, if your teeth are stained, darkened, or soiled from various foods, tobacco, or drinks, AP-24® Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste will quickly remove the stains and return your teeth to theirlight, natural color.

The safety of our products is extremely important to Nu Skin. Nu Skin was founded on the belief that it could develop products containing beneficial and truly effective ingredients. This commitment to product quality and innovation remains the company’s long-standing priority. Nu Skin relies on major governmental and regulatory bodies to decipher whether an ingredient is safe to use.

Nu Skin continues to monitor the latest research on ingredient safety to maintain the highest standard of safety and quality. The scientific committees that review these studies are associated with organizations such as the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP), Personal Care Products Council (PCPC), the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA) in the United States and other European Countries, the Food and Drug Association (FDA), American Medical Association (AMA) – toname just a few.

These review boards are made up of unbiased, educated and qualified scientists and professionals that understand the methods of scientific research and have a great deal of knowledge in these specific areas. These committees examine all the available studies on a given ingredient and determine whether it is safe for human application and the environment as presently used in cosmetics. As these are qualified scientists and professionals, they do not take each study at face value. Rather, they weigh the study based on the use of the ingredient, its dose, how the research was conducted and other factors when evaluating its application to human health.

AP-24 Fluoride Whitening Toothpaste was developed based on these same standards.  Each ingredient within in this formula is included at a safe and efficacious amount per the available research. Dosing of ingredients or their concentration greatly impacts their safety. What is safe at one level, could be dangerous at another and completely ineffective at yet another. Skilled scientists and formulators ensure the final product is safe, effective and pleasing the end user. None the less, due to individual differences there is a chance of irritation with this or any product. If this occurs, the product should be discontinued.

The USFDA has approved fluoride as an Over the Counter (OTC) drug in the US. The inclusion of fluoride such as, sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, and stannous fluoride, is needed at an effective dose to make any anticaries claims for products. The use of fluoride in toothpastes has been thoroughly vetted and found to be safe and effective for prevention of dental cavities (decay, caries). The American Dental Association mandates that any product with its seal of approval have fluoride per the final US FDA monograph. For more information on fluoride use and safety see Anticaries Drug Products for Over-the-Counter Human Use; Final Monograph; 21 CFR parts 310, 355, and 369. For information on fluorosis, see

Aluminum Hydroxide (Alumina)
Aluminum Hydroxide is a stable form of aluminum utilized in many personal care products including toothpaste. In toothpaste, it is included as an abrasive to help remove plaque and surface stains. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel has reviewed aluminum hydroxide stating that this ingredient’s use in cosmetics is chemically equivalent to that used in OTC antacid product. They also indicate that aluminum hydroxide should not be confused with elemental aluminum as these are substantially different in terms of physical properties, chemical properties, functions, and potential for toxicity. As such, aluminum hydroxide is poorly absorbed. They further concluded that they were “not concerned with the potential for incidental ingestion of alumina when used in lipsticks or oral hygiene formulations. The amount of the aluminum ion that could be released in the digestive tract through the incidental ingestion of such cosmetic products are far below the levels of toxicological concern.” See Becker, L.C. et al. Safety Assessment of Alumina and Aluminum Hydroxide as Used in Cosmetics. IJT 35(Suppl. 3):16-33, 2016

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
After reviewing the available scientific literature, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel has indicated a that sodium lauryl sulfate is safe when used in “formulations designed for discontinuous, brief use followed by thorough rinsing from the surface of the skin” similar to its use in toothpaste formulations. Oral consumption studies, including those in quantities much larger than what would be expected from ingestion of oral hygiene products, did not show any toxicity concerns. See Final Report on the Safety Assessment of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. J Am Coll Toxicol 2(7): 127-181, 1983

The chemical accumulates in the clear tissue and stays there for up to five or six days. The absorbed SLS causes changes in the amounts of proteins in the eye, and creates a new kind of protein, not yet identified, in the eyes of rabbits treated in experiments. SLS was also shown to slow healing of the corneal epithelium, the cellular surface of the clear tissue. This study shows that the eyes of young persons and those in a healing stage are most susceptible to SLS damage. SLS is not used in any skin care or hair care products in the Nu Skin line. Other companies are still using this ingredient in their shampoos and cleansing products. As soon as this information was discovered, Nu Skin immediately changed all formulations that contained SLS. This happened in late 1987.

SLS in Oral Care Products – SLS is contained in the AP-24 and Jungamals AP-24 toothpaste and is considered to be safe and effective for that purpose. In oral care products, SLS is used as a foaming and anti-plaque agent. It helps give a good, bubbly mouth feel. In addition, SLS softens plaque and helps it detach from teeth during the brushing process.

SLS Studies and Oral Irritation – A few scientific investigations have reported the possibility of minor, oral mucosa irritation due to SLS. However, these studies did not mimic normal usage of toothpaste containing SLS. For example, the toothpaste used in some studies contained unrealistic levels of SLS. Most toothpaste formulas have less than 1% SLS, whereas these studies used much higher levels. AP-24 toothpaste contains much less SLS than most other toothpastes.

Some studies created artificial oral hygiene systems which may have over exposed the mouth to undiluted toothpaste. In one study, the toothpaste was applied directly to teeth (with no dilution from saliva) and allowed to remain in place for over 2 minutes. (Most adults today do not brush for even one minute.) Therefore, the results obtained from this study are difficult to correlate with every day “normal” oral care practices.

SLS Safety in Oral Care Products – Major manufacturers of toothpaste have included SLS in their formulas for nearly half a century. With literally billions of repeated SLS toothpaste applications, only a small percentage of adverse reactions has been reported. This is remarkable considering the consumer population size and years this ingredient has been in daily use. There are always a few individuals who are sensitive to certain compounds. SLS is no exception.

Hydrated Silica
Concerns involving the abrasiveness of hydrated silica need to take into consideration the formulation of the final product. Silicates, such as hydrated silica, are specifically mentioned as examples of mild abrasives used to remove debris and surface stains and is specifically listed on the ADA website as typical toothpaste ingredients. The RDA, which measure the potential abrasiveness of a toothpaste, of AP-24 Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste is 103. This is well below the limit considered safe for daily use.

Titanium Dioxide
Titanium dioxide is an approved food colorant that helps to make products aesthetically more pleasing. The health concerns relative to titanium dioxide revolve around its inhalation. Within personal care formulations, the titanium dioxide is bound and therefore does not have the ability to be inhaled. It, therefore, does not pose any of the same concerns. For more safety information on Titanium dioxide,

Acting as a humectant, PEG-12, is a polymer of ethylene glycol. Research on this ingredient indicates that is minimally absorbed. The ingredient used within our formulas is processed to remove 1,4 dioxane concerns. Thus, this ingredient does not pose any health or safety concerns. For more information on the safety of PEG-12, see

Sodium Saccharin
The ADA website lists saccharin as an example of a typical toothpaste ingredient for flavoring agents. While early research on saccharin called its use into question, more recent studies have evaluated these concerns and found them unreasonable for humans. Additionally, saccharin and sodium saccharin were delisted from the Proposition 65 list more than a decade ago. For more information on the safety of sodium saccharin, see

I can’t stand the taste of mint but also don’t want to use bubble-gum child’s toothpaste or cinnamon, so I love this stuff. It works well, as far as I can tell so far, and tastes only minimally minty.

Love it! Noticeable difference after just a few days!

  8. Made my teeth visibly whiter! It did make them more sensitive though but my teeth were already pretty sensitive. I would definitely purchase again.

  9. I took a before picture before I started and an after picture 3 days later and compared the difference and I could tell a huge difference. Seeing the two pictures side by side made me realize just how yellow my teeth had became.

Looking in the mirror every day I did not notice it. There is no sensitivity noticed. The girl I bought it from told me to brush twice a day for two minutes at a time and do not rinse after brushing. I have been following her instructions and I am very pleased with the results. I will definitely buy another tube.

  10. This toothpaste helps my breath stay fresh all day. I know it may sound like a bad advertisement, but I have suffered with bad breath most of my adult like. Now that I don’t, I realize all the toothpastes I used before, contained something that interfered with my chemistry.

  11. I have been using this toothpaste for over 1 month. I can see a big difference in the color of my teeth. Great taste.

  12. Works amazing noticed in 3 days a huge difference in my teeth as well as my children who love it just as much.. We fight over the tube!

  13. Amazing results. Don’t expect the results over night but after using a small amount morning and night I noticed a good difference in the first two weeks. Even better after a month. An affordable way to keep your teeth white!

  14. It’s a very safe product, my dentist recommended it worked very well brightening my teeth. Don’t buy off Amazon because you not getting a guaranteed product.

  15. I would like to try AP-24 but wanted to know if it will make a difference on my front teeth that are caps?? I was afraid that the rest of my teeth would whiten but would not whiten the capped front teeth and it would show a difference in the color?? Thank you!!!

    1. Sue,
I have a capped front tooth. It will remove stains off the cap but will not whiten it past it’s natural color. Same goes for your teeth 🙂
